Windows Partition Corrupted After Installing Updates In Dual Boot Configuration

By:   |   Jul 08, 2018   |   Views: 9   |   Comments: 0

Intel-powered Mac computers allow you to set a dual boot configuration between Windows (Windows XP and Vista) and Mac OS X. For this to succeed, you first need to install Apple Boot Camp that can create a separate disk partition to install Windows. Though this framework is ideal for users desiring to access both Windows and Mac features on a same machine, but is equally vulnerable to data loss causing factors. Users report several problems that might occur and cause a Windows partition to get corrupted. Such situations can not only prevent you to log into Windows but also compel you to use a windows disk recovery utility in case of backup unavailability.

To comprehend such problems in more detail, consider you use a dual boot configuration running Windows XP and Mac OS X on a Mac computer. You might observe the following sequence of events on this system:

  • You are prompted to install Windows update and you confirm the request.

  • After the installation of updates is complete, the system attempts to reboot. But you find Windows unbootable.

  • When you try to boot the computer in safe mode, it indicates corruption in partitioning scheme. Also, running chkdsk cannot repair the partition.

One of the possible reasons of Windows partition corruption can be incompatibility between updates and machine. This can also occur if updates installation process has been interrupted.

You are suggested to consider the following measures to solve the given problem:

  • Boot in to Mac and try to access the Windows partition. If it is accessible, you can copy the valuable data and delete the corrupted partition later. You need to reinstall Windows in order to set the configuration in earlier state.

  • Check for the last available backup. If valid, recreate the partition and reinstall Windows.

  • Use a disk partition recovery utility to recover the lost and inaccessible data and reinstall Windows. A Windows Disk Recovery tool can use efficient scanning algorithms to analyze the corrupted disk partition and to rescue the lost data. These utilities are safe and easy to use.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is an advanced application that recovers lost data from Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2003, and 2000 systems. The disk partition recovery tool has an interactive display with self-explaining features. The tool incorporates powerful features like disk cloning, disk imaging, drive status, Raw data recovery, and more.
