Why Use A Full Size Mattress Pad Versus A Full Size Featherbed?

When people are out shopping for a bed, many stress the comfort level. Some people will spend hours, lying down on mattresses to test the intensity of its firmness or the fluffiness of its softness. But what a lot of people fail to realize is that a mattress's comfort can be adjusted with accessories. Yes, you read correctly. Sure, it is nice to have the nice pillow top full size mattress. However, the few hundred bucks that the pillow top will add to the cost of your mattress are unnecessary, especially if you consider other options to make your full size bed comfortable. This is where full size mattress pads and full size featherbeds come into play. But, which is best? Should you use one over the other? Or can both be used at the same time? Well, you must first know what each is used for and how they will add pizazz to your bed.

A full size mattress pad helps in protecting your mattress from daily wear and tear. Mattress pads are also called mattress protectors, due in great part to the fact that most are water resistant. If a full size mattress pad or a full size mattress topper, as it is also known, is water resistant or water proof, it will help protect your mattress from spill accidents. After all, children and pets do have accidents. Most full size mattress pads do not add much cushion and those that do, only have about an inch or less of thickness. They are filled with polyester filling, which may or may not be soft. This is why many people refer to it as a full size mattress cover, or a full size mattress topper. Subsequently, they serve more of a protective purpose. Remember, most mattress protectors will not add softness; they guard your mattress to extend its life usage.

On the other hand if you are looking for added comfort you can obtain a full size featherbed, which will add softness to a firm or hard mattress. In addition, a full size featherbed can also revitalize an old full size mattress, adding a few more years of use to it. A full size featherbed ranges from 3 - 5 inches in thickness, this adds height and comfort to your new bed. Most full size featherbeds are filled with a blend feathers and down.

To create both softness and protection you can use both at the same time. Simply place the featherbed first, and cover the featherbed and the mattress with the full size mattress pad. Keep in mind that the full size featherbed will add extra height to your bed, therefore, you must make sure that the protector will be big enough to cover the full size mattress and the full size featherbed entirely. If you think ahead, take the time to choose your full size mattress, your full size featherbed and your full size mattress pad, you will ensure yourself a great night's sleep, every night!
