It is a known fact that each year the costs for pursuing education is rising in a steady manner and hence many students find it hard to pay their college or school fees.  Parents and families with limited income find this situation very challenging and hence look for various kinds of monetary aids to support their ward's educational expenses.  Actually speaking there are many kinds of free grants for school and college but not many know where and how to get them.

Grants for school are funds offered by the federal government to the schools and are distributed to needy and deserving students who study in the school at the discretion of the school.  Many educational programs and schools are given free hand to spend the grants for school.  Every year more than sixty seven billion valued grants for provided in the form of grants, loans and aids to millions of school and college students.  Students should satisfy certain eligibility requirements in order to receive grants for schools some of them are given below:

In order to avail these types of grants the student should be a citizen of the country or a non citizen who is eligible to avail grants with a social security number that is valid, should possess a GED or general education development certificate or high school diploma or should take the ability to benefit test and pass it, should have enrolled as a regular student in a program that is eligible, should be in the age group of eighteen to twenty five and need to be registered with the selective service, should have a partially eligible or eligible result on the question related to drug conviction.  Even though persons who have got convicted for possession and sale of drugs might not be eligible to receive student aids from federal government, they still can apply for other grants and avail them.

Various types of grants include degree level grants, student specific grants, subject specific grants, grants particularly meant for students with lower income and grants for minorities.  Some student specific grants include grants for disadvantaged students, doctoral students, graduate grants, undergraduate grants, military grants and non traditional grants for college.  There are also subject specific grants like the grants for nursing students, grants for teacher training courses, grants for healthcare and so on as these fields have great demand always.  Enough information can be got from various websites dedicated for grants and can be utilized to get one.
