Trendy Costume Jewelry

Fashion jewelry today is largely targeted to teenage girls and young adults.  Cheap fashion jewelry has for decades now, been used to express their individuality, fun-loving free spirit and outlook, and a personal sense of style.  The goal in fashion or costume jewelry is to use materials that don't cost much, but yet give the impression of high end jewelry.  For example, jewelry made from synthetics such as plastic can make you look good without spending a whole lot of money.  To add some pizzazz, consider adding some glitter using manmade crystals such as cubic zirconia.  This gives you that expensive and luxurious look without the associated expense.  Prevailing trends and styles in jewelry designs are largely dictated by personalities in the entertainment industry.  While they can probably afford to spend tens of thousands of dollars on fine jewelry in the latest styles, only to discard them when the trends change, most of us cannot afford that kind of money.  However, you can capture the look of trendy fine jewelry by using replicates in fashion jewelry.  Inexpensive costume jewelry can help you keep in step with the latest fashion trends. Wear layers of bangles or necklaces in the prevailing color combinations and styles, without breaking the bank!

Although synthetic materials are popular for costume jewelry, it is important to remember that natural materials can also be used to create hip and trendy styles.  Using base metals such as copper is a growing trend in fashion jewelry.  Copper has a natural warm and rustic rose color.  The tones are rich and earthy and they can be combined with natural stones and materials in a wide range of colors and textures to create some stunning pieces of fashion jewelry.  Copper is just $2 a pound, while gold is over $800 and ounce!  So copper certainly fits the bill for being a cost effective material for fashion jewelry.  In addition, it is easy to work with copper.  Consider large copper pendants to make a bold fashion statement.  The copper setting should be quite ornate and be the focus of the pendant, with the stone being more of an accessory.  When it comes to the focal bead for the pendant, consider natural opaque stones such as agates or coral.  Similarly, a multi strand cultured pearl bracelet is also an excellent piece of fashion jewelry.  Cultured pearls are much more affordable than natural pearls.  Consider bracelets with colorful dyed pearls for a bold statement, or bracelets using baroque pearls for a more bohemian look.
