The Benefits of Botox

Botox injections are a highly popular method used to eliminate unwanted wrinkles such as those around the eyes and forehead, as well as other areas of the face. These wrinkles are typically the result of acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that is regularly released from the muscles directly under the surface of the skin, and Botox is a chemical that interrupts this process. The chemical works to paralyze the muscles, and a considerable difference in one's appearance can be seen in as little as seven days after the initial treatment.

Dynamic Wrinkles

Dynamic wrinkles are those which result from movements and expressions, and these wrinkles are particularly common around the eyes and forehead, since these are the areas in which most expressions are worn.

Dynamic wrinkles respond well to Botox injections, as they weaken the muscles that control the aforementioned expressions, and in doing so, eliminate unwanted lines. Additionally, Botox treatments target only sensory and muscle nerves, but have no effect on motor nerves, therefore, do not hinder one's ability to create facial expressions. While these positive results are the main characteristic for which Botox is famous, the chemical also provides a myriad of other benefits.

Hyperhidrosis

Approximately 2%-3% of individuals in the United States suffer from a condition called Hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is the technical word for excessive perspiration of the palms, underarms, and soles of the feet. For obvious reasons, this condition is uncomfortable and embarrassing for those whom it afflicts. Botox provides a lasting and effective treatment for hyperhidrosis, as it alleviates symptoms for up to six months following a single treatment.

Over-sized Masseter Muscles

Additionally, Botox has been used successfully as a treatment for individuals who suffer from over sized masseter muscles. These muscles are used for grinding and chewing food, and when they are overly large, it results in a square shaped jaw and face, which can be considerably unattractive. This condition is not as uncommon as many people may think. Botox offers a nonsurgical treatment through which those afflicted with this condition can achieve the face shape they desire. When used this way, Botox injections have shown to decrease the size of one's masseter muscles, resulting in a smooth, well defined jawline. It is a noninvasive procedure requiring little or no recovery time and can be performed in a few minutes at a professional Atlanta Botox facility.

There are additional benefits offered by Botox injection treatments, and new benefits are currently in the process of being evaluated. Anyone who is interested in the currently available treatments or who are wondering which treatments may be best should contact a reputable Atlanta Botox Center like Shape Wellness Center for further information.
