Remedies For Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a medical condition that affects hearing and is caused by a number of factors. Such factors include exposure to loud noise sources like speakers at a rock concert or close proximity to an exploding firecracker. "Tinnitus" is the scientific term for ringing in the ears (or head) when there is no current sound present. Sometimes it isn't actually a "ringing" noise, but a sound resembling a ring, hiss, roar, whistle, chirp, etc. Tinnitus can either be continuous or it may come and go at various volumes. The main difference between the two types is that objective tinnitus, can often be heard by others, and subjective tinnitus, can only be heard by the sufferer.

Home remedies for tinnitus are all the rage just now and things like; stress reducing daily exercises (e.g. meditation, yoga, etc.); reduction of high blood pressure through exercise, low fat diet, alcohol and caffeine reduction; herbal treatments such as ginkgo-biloba, burdock root, etc., have many fans. Those whose tinnitus is caused by impairments in the hearing organ are treated differently from those whose tinnitus is caused by other treatable health conditions. If the tinnitus is due to another underlying cause, the tinnitus is often treated by treating the underlying ailment. Inner ear damage, especially of the microscopic nerve endings, is the immediate cause of tinnitus. This damage may be due to many different factors. Simply aging or getting older may sometimes cause some damage to the hearing nerve.

Tinnitus can also be caused by hearing loss that occurs either as part of the aging process or as a result of overexposure to loud noise, such as that produced at rock concerts, or by power equipment and fire arms. Aside from taking drugs prescribed by the physician to suppress the tinnitus, other simple remedies would include avoidance of nicotine and alcohol, decreased consumption of caffeine and salt, zinc supplementation, and taking vitamin combinations. Simple steps can be taken to make the symptoms of tinnitus less bothersome. Hypnosis is another potential solution for curing your Tinnitus which has gained some popularity in recent years. However it is not known how effective hypnotherapy is as a solution since it is a relatively new procedure.

In the case of stress related tinnitus, you should first try to get rid of the sources of stress. Relaxation techniques, such as breathing deeply and listening to soothing music, may also help reduce stress levels and the tinnitus symptom. Occasionally, tinnitus is caused by health issues such as high blood pressure, narrowing of the arteries, or atherosclerosis, the buildup of fatty deposits and cholesterol that causes blood vessels to close. In general, most of the tinnitus sufferers are looking for ways to get rid of this condition. In the urge to escape from worse tinnitus conditions, many people try out some conventional medicines sold in various pharmacies. There are many natural remedies available and the fact is, they have already proven their worth to those that no longer suffer from the constant ringing sounds. You may need to experiment a little to come up with the right remedy for tinnitus.
