What exactly are printed lanyards?
Printed lanyards are basically tags that are usually worn around the neck with an ID attached to the metal clasp on the end. They are usually worn for security reasons. You have probably seen doctors wearing them in hospitals, or security guards at music events wearing them. Usually in large buildings such as offices or government buildings, staff wear them to show that they are allowed to walk freely throughout the building. Printed lanyards normally have the name of the company that the member of staff belongs to.
What other purposes do printed lanyards have?
Printed lanyards are also used as something called a kill switch. A train driver would wear one around his wrist with a key in it. If he slumped at the controls due to becoming unconscious the engine would deactivate. This same system is used on many types of dangerous machinery so if the person at the controls becomes incapacitated the machinery will automatically turn off. Printed lanyards are also used by people to keep USB drives on, which is a very handy way to look after them.
