Is The Disuse Syndrome Stealing Your Life Away?

"You are only as young as you feel" is an old saying that people tell each other as they get older. We now know if you don't work at staying strong with regular and vigorous exercise you won't feel very youthful or be very healthy no matter what your age.

Maybe you are living in a state of denial about the need to exercise and are still thinking of it as an option or a luxury extra that you may do if you have time. It isn't helpful that society accepts and even encourages a lack of activity among people once they get past a certain age.

If you believe that you need to take it easy or slow down as you get older you could well be setting yourself up for a miserable time in the latter part of your life. We have all gotten used to seeing others slow down as they age so we believe it's normal. Therefore, we slow down and "take it easy" too...and then proceed to enter a downward spiral of degeneration.

If we start thinking old, we start acting old.. We need to banish these outdated thoughts from our lives if we wish to stay as youthful as we would like. We do not have to experience the effects of aging as most people perceive it in our culture. We do not have to succumb to illness, degeneration and disease.

We do not have to experience years or decades of a downward spiral of physical and mental decline. It has been proven that almost the entire decline in functioning ? weak, shrinking muscles and bones, stiff joints, low energy levels etc - is actually due to disuse not just aging. The human body is designed to last at least one hundred years and is supposed to be strong, move well and function well at this age. Although a lot of people live to this age, how many of them are sprightly and active?

We now are aware that there is a lot we can do to protect ourselves from some of the diseases and conditions that we once believed were a natural part of the aging process. New research shows that a healthy lifestyle full of proper strength maintaining exercise can make you look, feel and function years younger.

Regular vigorous exercise combats the effects of aging by strengthening muscles, bones joints and the immune system, stimulates circulation, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels and reduces the risk of chronic disease. It helps you lose excess weight, help you sleep better, relieves stress, increase energy levels all of which will knock years off how you look and feel.

If you are 40, 60, or older and you have not been an active person over the years or have not done any structured exercise, don't worry because it is never too late to turn this around. You can wipe away years or decades of disuse within a few short months and. you don't have to let this "disuse" syndrome affect you. Just be sure to use the right exercise program otherwise time will be wasted and the results will be disappointing.

Enlist the help of fitness professional, get started right away and reap the youthful and healthy benefits of a proper exercise program. Don't allow yourself to risk losing your health as you get older or you risk losing your independence as well and all other possessions will be rendered irrelevant. This simple solution will ensure this will never happen to you.
