How To Promote Your Home Based Business

Are you tired of having to wake up early so you can avoid heavy traffic and arrive at your office before the clock says you are in trouble with the boss? There may be a solution to that but it will take guts, lots of hard work, some talent and determination.

It is important to study some facts before ever starting any type of business venture. Once you have made the decision to start a home business, then you must realize that it will involve some hard work. After you have the basics in place it is time to start promoting your business. Out of everything this is the most important part of your business. You cannot rely on the "build it and they will come" principle. People have to know that you exist in order to generate any sales.

So what will be the first place that you should start to promote your home business?

Number one, you need a website. In today's world websites are very easy and affordable to obtain. Start by thinking up a domain (dot.com) name that will showcase your business. If, for instance, you will be starting a custom home sewing business, you may want to try to register the domain "yourname"customsewing.com or "yourname"-custom-sewing.com. Using your own name will brand you. If your name is very common, you might choose to use something a bit more original that people can connect right away to your business.

After you have picked out some domain names go to GoDaddy.com or WhoIs.com to see if your domain name is available. This is a free service.

Your next step is to find a website hosting service. There are many of them available and some are quite reasonably priced. Some of the more popular ones for newbies are GoDaddy, Hostgator, and Hostmonster. I've personally used GoDaddy since 1999. You should research to see what kind of services each offers and determine which one is right for your business. With most of the hosting services, you also can purchase your domain name from them as well. It is much easier to have all of this in one place. At the beginning I believe you'll find that basic hosting provides more than enough features for about $4.00 per month.

You now have the basic tools needed for your online promotion. Now you will need to build a website or have someone build it for you. There is free software available if you will be attempting to do this yourself.

An introduction page will tell folks a little bit about your business and what you are offering. Provide an "About Me" page that reveals important information about you. This is the page that gives you credibility. You should showcase any specialized interests or training that you might have. Your sales page will list the products or services that you offer along with pricing. If you are selling a service, it is a very good idea to include testimonials from previous satisfied customers in order to build trust in your business.
