Depression is now a serious issue in the western world, an herbal treatment for depression report can become very useful. Especially that we see now more and more young individuals suffering from depression, even children. S

tatistics show that people born before 1945 are one hundred times less likely to suffer from major depression than the people born after 1945. The number of people suffering from depression keeps going higher and higher, along with anxiety disorders sleep disorders, suicides and teen violence. Most of the data trying to find why this is happening point at our diet and sedentary life style.

There are several natural treatments for depression that have been shown in studies to be effective. Today, I am going to talk about the herbal treatment for depression. But first you should always consult with your primary physician before starting any herbal treatment.

St. John's wort, with hypericum as the active ingredient, it has been very effective for mild to moderate depression, and some how effective for Anxiety disorder, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD for children) and depression in children. It needs to be taken consistently for 4 to 8 weeks to see results. Remember to check for herb drug interaction before using.

Lemon Balm is another herbal treatment for depression, also known as Melissa. Because of its gentle properties and pleasant flavor, it is good for children and to those who are sensitive to bitterness found in most herbs, and because it removes surface tension from the body. It is effective as a treatment for nervous tension and depression according to M. Tierra. You can use it as a tea or a tincture.

Lavender, in aromatherapy it is used as a natural treatment for depression, also anxiety and nervousness. For messaging, Lavender relaxes muscles and eases tension. Lavender oil is used in diffusers, salves, bath products, and undiluted as a topical essential oil. It should not be taken internally.

Kava Kava is considered another natural depression remedy, it can be used according to herbalist Ed Smith, as a mild tranquilizer to calm the mind and clear the thought process, soothe the temperament, and introduce a gentle euphoria with feelings of peace and harmony. In Europe, Kava is an approved phyto medication used to treat anxiety and despondency. You should not take Kava and Alprazolam (Xanax) together or Buspirone unless supervised by a doctor.
