Getting Started in Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is fast becoming a desirable career on the internet thanks to the successful marketers out there who have proven how very possible it is to work hard and make really good money. Here are some simple steps to lay your foundation.

Certainly you have to have a website to get started. I suggest a blog, either a free one on Wordpress or installed on your own domain. Now you need to fill it with content to create a site of value. Write about affiliate marketing, working at home, helpful tips and resources, and so on. Link to these in your signatures elsewhere and in your posts on your blog.

You need to get people to visit your site. No matter what great content you have or how many fabulous free reports you are offering, without traffic it's all just text on the web sitting there. The easiest way to get traffic is to write articles and place them on the articles directories for people to read and for others to publish on their sites, with your byline and web page link or "resource box" intact. This will go far in delivering visitors to your site, especially if a website with good page rank value hosts your article as content. That will give you valuable link to your site in exchange and result in more traffic back. Post your articles on your blog too.

Post at discussion forums, using the signature feature to draw people to visit your site. Post beneficially. You are there to establish yourself sincerely, not to spam. Help others, ask useful, questions, etc.

You can also pay to get traffic through banner or email advertising or pay-per-click services. You will need to learn a bit about first; otherwise you may lose more money than you make. Banners and email advertising have the potential to bring in lots of traffic and you can get free advertising or even trade advertising. Shop around. See what's possible.

Build an Email List
Sign up for an auto responder email service and learn what you can about auto responder emailing. Place an opt-in email subscription box on your site and invite your visitors to subscribe to your occasional emails. Don't bombard them with emails. Just an occasional valuable tip will be appreciated. Later on you will use this list to promote your products.

Make a Plan
Map out a plan to spend about a month working on content and on traffic and list building. At the end of the month you will have a website with a considerable amount of content and traffic already flowing in and a list of subscribed members waiting to hear from you. You will have established yourself as a helper and a leader and can then begin on the path to promoting and marketing a product you feel is of value. Above all, be appreciative of your members. Over deliver and they will respect you regard you as a trusted friend.
