Our body is composed of trillions of cells, which make up tissues, which comprise our different organs. Each organ belongs to a body system that works in synchrony and harmony to perform essential functions needed to sustain life. Every organ has a specialized duty it needs to religiously accomplish. When one organ fails to do its job, perhaps due to external or internal problems, the whole system may break down. Hence, the whole body will malfunction.

Little do people know that the largest organ is something that we find outside our body. It's the skin. The skin is a very important organ that serves us humans with dozens of purposes. First of all, the skin is our body's protection. Since it covers us, it shields all our organs from external harm. The skin also regulates our temperature, whether we are in hot or cold environments. The hairs on our skin stand up to gather more heat from the air when we feel cold. Our skin releases sweat to cool our bodies down when we feel hot.

Because our skin works extra hard, these duties take a toll on it. Most of the things we do, especially the food we consume, contribute to toxins in our body, which eventually will affect our overall performance. Putting these things into consideration, experts have found ways to remove toxins from the body by treating the largest organ, the skin.

Yes, detoxification is possible without having to undergo surgery or exposure to sophisticated electronic equipment and machinery. Though the skin is extremely tough, it is also permeable, meaning it selectively allows certain substances to enter and exit the body. Detoxification processes for the skin help remove unwanted substances by letting them exit the body through the skin.

One such way to do this is through mud wraps. This can be done on the face, or all over the body. A special botanical formula of mud and essential extracts are spread evenly over the skin, and allowed to penetrate the skin before washing off. The mud wrap helps improve skin tone, and clears dirt that causes acne and allergies.

Dry brushing with a soft bristle brush is also a simple way to detoxify the skin. Since our skin sheds off dead cells everyday, we can assist the process by gently brushing our skin. Removing dead cells helps the rejuvenation process. At the same time, brushing the skin improves blood circulation all over the body.

Subjecting the body to a sauna treatment is also a method of detoxification. The temperatures within the sauna cause the body to sweat excessively, hence removing toxins through the skin. Also, soluble fats are released through the skin, which is why some people look to this option for weight-loss. However, sauna exposure is not for everybody, and excessive sauna treatments may have harmful side effects.

Understanding our body processes takes us a step closer to achieving a healthy lifestyle. These are only some of the many treatments you can take for detoxifying your body. Ask your doctor today, and find one that is perfect for you.
