Essential oils can be traced back for over 5000 years. It is used by the Chinese even today for use in message therapy as well as their religious services. Egyptians used the oils for medicinal and spiritual purposes. Over time there have been many cultures that have used, and still use aromatherapy as a way to heal.

These ailments can be relieved by using such oils as basil, bergamot, black pepper, cedar wood, chamomile, coriander, cypress, fennel, garlic, ginger, jasmine, juniper, lavender, eucalyptus, Melissa myrtle, nutmeg, pine, rose, and sandalwood. The list is a lot longer than this, but you get the idea.

Most of these oils are used for different purposes although many have similar medicinal properties. For getting the full benefits of these plant based oils, you need to learn how to use them in the most appropriate manner. As you continue to study and learn about oils you will naturally become more familiar with all the properties each oil has whether it be for physical, emotional or spiritual support.

Each essential oil has a well-know biological effect but since it also affects the central nervous system, each person reacts according to his or her condition. When using essential oils you should take some precautions.

Do not apply undiluted essential oils directly to your skin, because they are too concentrated and may lead to a burn. Test aromatherapy products (such as lotions or creams) by applying a small dab to your arm. Consult a qualified practitioner if you are using any medication, because essential oils may interact with certain medications.

There are several ways to apply the oils to get their optimum result, each oil can be used in different ways as well. Inhalations, Baths, Compresses, Facial steam, Massage, diffusers and lotions are the most effective.

You should also make sure that the products that you get are 100% pure oils. You don't want any additives.
