Apartment Amenities You Are Going to Want to Ask About
When I was looking for an apartment online, I had no idea what qualities to look for. I didn't know that some let pets and others didn't. I didn't know I had to pay extra for a washing machineâ¬Â¦ nothing. I was a baby in the world of leasing. Now I write before you, a wealth of knowledge, set on educating the leasing babies of tomorrow!
Laundry: I have already discussed the downsides of laundry in my previous article Frightening Laundry. The conclusion being that I personally have found it more beneficial to pay the additional money to get an apartment with a washer and dryer.
Flooring: Carpet, wood, painted cement? If you're living with a small, lovely child, you might want to look at the wood floored apartments for easy clean-up. I live with my roommates adorable three year old daughter, but we definitely use our fair share of Resolve (carpet cleaner.) Chocolate syrup flowers drawn on the carpet is one of the more interesting of the challenges. As you can see, I totally prefer wood flooring (looks nice!), small child or not!
Gym: Is there a workout facility? The winter months usually leave me pretty sedentary. Having a gym close (whether part of the apartment complex or not) can make or break my fitness routine--and my health. Always ask where the nearest workout facility, park, or exercise venue is.
Workspace: Getting work done in an apartment can be pretty easy, but it's always nice to have a change of scenery. Few apartments have this incredible amenity, but it's something worth looking for if you often do homework (or bring your business work home with you)..
These are four of the main things I like to know about apartments when I am browsing online. While having my roommate read this, she told me to say: Don't forget to check if there are any utilities included! Sometimes, you can negotiate to have utilities included with your rent, although, this might result in a slightly higher monthly rent.
Let me know if there are other things that should be included in this list. Knowledge of these things and their benefits would have helped me greatly when choosing my first apartment!
