All About Soy Candles

Soy candles are becoming a more popular option for people that are interested in candles. They are made from soy wax, which is hydrogenated soybean oil. The wax itself was invented in 1992 by Michael Richards. He was searching for a cheaper alternative to beeswax. Eventually he became very interested in the candle industry and realized there was a large demand for natural wax candles. They can now be bought at most supermarkets and specialized stores. They are also available online for purchase. A lot of people also make their own at home and this process is very easy and can be very rewarding.

To make your own you will need the following: 1 pound of soy wax, 1 mason jar, 1 ounce of fragrance oil, wax dye, and 1 cotton wick. You should start by putting the wax in a pan and slowly heating it until it is completely melted. Once it is fully melted you should remove it from the heat. Next add the fragrance oil and stir until it is all absorbed. At this time you may also add dye if you want to add color.

Next you will want to get your jar and place the wick in the center. Pour the wax gently into the jar and use a pen or pencil to keep your wick centered. The next step is the easiest one; you wait. Once it has turned solid you can trim the wick and you are all ready to burn your own soy candle.
