A Few Tips for Cleaning and Maintaining Your Carpets

By:   |   Jul 08, 2018   |   Views: 91   |   Comments: 0

Even though the carpeting in your home may look clean, in reality there may be a substantial amount of dirt lying just below the surface. The longer this dirt is allowed to work its way down the harder in the end it will be to remove it. This is why it is imperative that your carpet be cleaned about twice and even up to three times a year.

Dealing With Spills and Stains

In between major cleanings you will encounter small spills and stains that can be removed by simple hand treatments. Understanding the best way to do this will make removing these incidental stains more easy.

Vacuum First

Begin by vacuuming the area where the stain is located. Then using a damp towel, rub out as much of the surface stain that you can, being careful that you don't soak the stained are with an excess of water. After you have completed this phase you can move onto the next step.

Canned Carpet Cleaner

That would be to use a commercial canned carpet cleaner that you can buy at your local hardware or carpet store. There there are several different varieties, with most people preferring the foaming type that comes in an aerosol can. Use a stiff brush to scrub the carpet after you have applied the cleaner.

Dealing With Stubborn Food Stains

If it is a difficult stain that you are removing, such as coffee or other types of food stains, you may want to cover the area with a warm wet towel after you have scrubbed in the cleaner. This will allow the cleaner some extra time to work with out drying out.

If You Aren't Satisfied Try Again

After you have done all that you can to scrub the stain out then you will have to let the carpet cleaner dry, so you can vacuum it out. In the end, if you are not completely satisfied with the results you can always repeat the cleaning process or call a professional carpet cleaning service to come and see what they can do.
