Affiliate Marketing the Lazy Man's Way to Do Business!

By:   |   Jul 08, 2018   |   Views: 4   |   Comments: 0

When you are just starting in internet marketing, keeping a positive mindset can be a crucial ingredient of long term survival. On or off the web, most new businesses do not become profitable immediately. Sales can be mediocre as your marketing campaign gets going, and if you didn't plan ahead for this fallow period you may begrudge the out-of-pocket expenses that arise. It is easy to get discouraged.

Affiliate marketing on the internet seems to be everywhere. There are so many sites that a person can sign up to receive bonuses from referring other people to the site that it seems that everyone is involved. This can lead to a lot of websites having more links to other sites than actual content, just to earn money from their affiliate marketing.

However, the idea of an affiliate is not a new one, and is by no means reserved just for the internet. There have long been associations between two or more people or companies. Quite often, being an affiliate of a prestigious organisation was seen as a benefit, and was often very hard sought after. Doctors would want to be affiliated with the General Medical Council organisation, for example. This affiliating with a recognised governing body would add extra credibility to the practice.

If you want to become an affiliate, you first need to choose either a product you want to sell, or an account management service. You will end up with both, but the choice of one will determine the choice for the other. If you choose the product first, the advertiser will direct you to the account management service that they already work with. If you choose the account management service first, they will provide you with a list of merchants that they do business with.

The majority of internet affiliates do not have the same status as other affiliates, as there are no special requirements for affiliation. Almost anyone can have hundreds of affiliate links on their site, and most of these are not of any real benefit to the credibility of the site itself. In fact, as they are purely ways to attract visitors to another site, the impact of these affiliate inks can often be negative.

A quick word of warning:

The amount of false information available about e-mail marketing on the net is staggering. If you are advertising your affiliate program through e-mail campaigns, make sure you know what your responsibilities are.

The lawless days of spam e-mail are over, at least for U.S.A. based advertisers. The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act) sets forth specific requirements for advertising via e-mail. The law has been tested numerous times since being passed and fines have been levied, property seized, people have even been sentenced to prison.

As an affiliate marketer obviously you don't want to be on the wrong side of this law. Luckily, complying with the provisions in the law is fairly simple.

Here is what it requires:

No misleading or fake header information. This includes the "From:" and "To" fields.

No deceptive subject lines. You want your customer to know what you're selling anyway, so this should be no problem.

Messages must be labelled as advertising. Again, the moral is: no sneaky stuff.

An "internet-based" opt-out method must be provided. You have 10 days to stop e-mailing a person once you have received their remove request.

Messages must include your business (or home) physical address. This provides accountability and a way for the customer to verify that your business is real.

Breaking any of these rules could lead to a fine of up to $11,000 per violation! Honesty is now truly the best policy. I know, I know, you may be thinking: if this is such a big deal, why is my in-box flooded with spam every day?

It's not a perfect world, and the short answer is that many of those advertisers are breaking the law. Commonly they are outside the United States in areas where prosecution may be unrealistic.

You, on the other hand, would probably be quite easy to catch.

Most internet marketing ventures start as one-man operations. When mistakes are made, you know who to blame. But don't just beat yourself up, remember that when progress is made, that was all you too. Celebrate the small victories.

Internet marketing is where the money is and it is easy and quick to set up a Internet Based Affiliate Marketing Business. Remember to keep you eye on the ball and never stop learning and you can't go far wrong.
